Find Out What Really Sinking Your Diet

Beware! “Healthy-looking” come-ons and attractive packaging can unconsciously get you eating and drinking more than you think you should. Here’s what to watch out for.

So you want to lose weight but do you take time to really read the labels? These days, you’ll find cans of soda or bottled tea or juices meant to serve two or three, not just one; or “family-size” packs that have you eating the whole bag yourself.

We’re not saying you should avoid these products like you do shoulder pads and high hair. But a little consumer vigilance on your part can help make sure you don’t wreck your diet with these snacks and condiments.

TIPS:

Ø The food will always be there:

“But while this new, healthy you are here, it won’t hurt to let go of the chips for a while.”

Ø Look at exercise as fun:

“Don’t be insulted when someone suggested that you go the gym. It’s something you can enjoy.”

Ø Acknowledge it:

“Tell yourself ‘I need to lose weight.’ Then embrace the support you’ll get from your family and friends.”

Eat more fruits and green leafy vegetables to nourish you body. Leafy vegetables are low in calories and fat but are high in fiber, which keeps you light but satisfied. Fruits have soluble fiber, which makes food digest slower and lowers your cholesterol. Try to pick water-based fruits like watermelon, melon, pear and apple to make you feel fuller but keep the calories low.
